About Us

Covenant Baptist Church, Dimapur (CBCD) is located at NMM Conference Hall, NMM Complex, 316 Fellowship colony, Dimapur. It was established in the year 2010 initiated by Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC). The church worships at NMM Hall, 3rd floor. The need for an English-speaking church at Dimapur was felt since the 1980s for few reasons. First, a church that would serve the need of the families who were unable to worship in a vernacular church due to language and cultural barrier. Second, the need for an emerging church to cater to the need for the seekers and more progressive community.

Our History

Covenant Baptist Church, Dimapur (CBCD) was officially inaugurated on April 11, 2010 by Rev. Dr. Anjo Keikung, the then General Secretary of NBCC. The church began with monthly fellowships at different homes with 5 core families for about a year until the official launch of the church under the guidance of the NBCC.

Covenant Baptist Church: The Name

The name “Covenant Baptist Church” was decided at one of the early monthly fellowships after prayerful deliberation. A covenant is defined as an agreement or relationship between two people, contracted deliberately and with solemnity. The Old Testament “Berith” and New Testatment “Diatheke” both connote the idea of covenant as a formal agreement made by God with a religious community or humanity in general. The name reflects our deepest desire to have a covenant relationship with God our Creator and also with each other as fellow believers.

Motto: “Doers of the Word” – James 1:22

At Covenant Baptist Church, we have accepted the challenge of the Bible to become “doers of the Word.” Faith is practical and concrete, not an abstract theological idea. While the Bible is clear that salvation is by grace alone, people who sincerely love God are those who keep His commands (John 14:15, 1 John 5:2-3). Covenant Baptist Church realizes that we desperately need the Word of God to take hold of our lives and change us. We desire that we become men and women of the Word.
